All Saints Evening Prayer

All Saints is already a very important day at Northside, and this year we extend it to the evening.  On Sunday night, November 6th, at 6:30, the congregations, clergy, and choirs of Northside Baptist Church and the Episcopal Church of the Creator will join in a service of Evening Prayer.  This service grew out of Vespers, which has been observed every evening at dusk in monastic communities since the sixth century.

The choir will sing two canticles set by Roland Martin, The Song of Mary (Magnificat) and The Song of Simeon (Nunc dimittis), which are both traditionally sung at Evening Prayer. The choir will also sing a setting of the Beatitudes from Matthew entitled “Blest are They,” composed by David Haas. The congregations will join in prayer for one another, those who have died this year, and other names we will lift up together.

Following Evening Prayer will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall.  All are invited and encouraged to attend the very special service and ecumenical celebration between these two loving Christian communities.
