Deacon's Meeting Minutes
March 7, 2010

Present.  Aaron Bond, Jo Hollman, Hal Lee, Stan Wilson, Missy Jones, Quentin Brewer, Greg Nolan, Graham Carner, John Meadors, Susan Meadors, Margaret Drummond and Buddy Wagner

Opening.   Meeting called to order by Graham.  Opening prayer offered by Jo.

Previous Minutes.  January 31, 2010 meeting minutes reviewed and approved.

Contact Sheets.  Deacon contact information sheets were distributed.
Discussion of Burial Plots at Lakewood.  It was noted that the church (by action taken at a previous church-wide business meeting) has voted to dispose of the 2 burial plots given by the Mashburn Estate. Greg Nolan was appointed to look into the value and transferability of these plots so that a decision can be made regarding the possible sale or usage of these plots as a ministry to church members or the community based upon need.

Discussion of Wednesday Night Prayer Services and Implementation of Ideas from Deacon's Retreat.  Wednesday night prayer services have been well received and attended.  Deacons were encouraged to continue to engage their caregiving groups in helping to discern the church's emphasis and impact on the community leading toward "healing and wholeness."
Discussion of Doctoral Work.  Stan explained his desire to pursue a Doctorate in Ministry degree.  He is looking into various long-distance programs which might involve only 1 or 2 on-campus meetings annually and the church's communal involvement.  If pursued, this program would take the place of his annual continuing education.
Discussion of Benevolence Fund.  It was noted that members of our church, including children, are in a vulnerable position with regard to minimal or no healthcare insurance coverage.  The possibility of increasing and expanding the benevolence fund to provide support to such members was discussed. John, Quentin and Graham were appointed to further look into this matter.

Other Business.   The next scheduled Deacon's Meeting was set for April 11 at 6:30pm.
Discussion of Caregiving and Prayer Concerns.

Closing Prayer by Buddy.
