Committee Meeting Minutes

MISSIONS COMMITTEE MINUTES 

November 9, 2008

Members present:  Emily Fokeladeh, Kay Brodbeck, Buddy Wagner, Jo Hollman, Jennifer Wilson, Ricky Nations

Jo Hollman opened the meeting with prayer and Buddy Wagner read the covenant.

The following assignments were made for the Advent Missions Offering.  The person assigned will either speak for a couple of minutes in the assigned worship service or enlist someone to speak to inform the congregation of the assigned project.

            November 30 - Heifer International - $5000 - Jo Hollman

            December 7 - Konjare Library Project - $4000 - Ricky Nations

            December 14 - Uganda Project - $4000 - Jennifer Wilson

            December 21 - Language Institute, Morocco - Emily Fokeladeh

Buddy Wagner reported that the team for the Macedonia trip has been selected.  The team consists of the following:  Harold and Jo Hollman, Graham and Mary Etta Carner, Sue Carrie Drummond and Emily Fokeladeh.  The team will go to Macedonia August 1-9.

Kay Brodbeck reported that there was an overwhelming response to the Stewpot request for coats, blankets, food and personal items.  This was an excellent time for the drive and the committee agreed that we should do the same thing next year at approximately the same time.

Buddy Wagner brought a request from Bob and Janice Newell, missionaries to Athens, Greece, for the PORTA photo exhibit to be displayed in our church.  Our responsibility would be to display the photos, protect them while they are on display, repack them and ship them to the next destination.  The only cost would be the shipping cost which is estimated at $40 - $60.  Kay Brodbeck agreed to be responsible for putting a request in the bulletin for someone to volunteer to be responsible for this project.

Kay Brodbeck reported that the blitz build of the Habitat house was successful yesterday.  The walls were put up and the roof was put on.  The build will continue this week.  Jo Hollman reported that the pounding for the family is planned for December 6.  She distributed a list of items needed for the family.

Buddy Wagner reported that the following individuals have requested to be added to the missions committee for 2009:  Harold Hollman, Mary Etta Carner, Judy Gearhart, Mary Johnston and June Hodge.

Next meeting was set for Sunday, January 11, at 5:00.
